Ibrahima Seck

The community of New Moston has been left devastated following the tragic killing of 14-year-old Ibrahima Seck, who died after being stabbed on Nevin Road last Sunday evening.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services and air ambulance staff, Ibrahima sadly died in hospital. Police have since arrested five people, including three teenagers and two adults, as part of an ongoing murder investigation.

Described by his family as a “funny, caring, and hardworking” boy, Ibrahima was remembered in a moving tribute as someone who “always made everybody laugh.”

“Ibrahima was our best friend,” his family said. “He was so smiley and always made everybody laugh. He was a good boy. The killers have killed two people, me and my son. Why would anyone do this to him? He does nothing wrong. My family want justice.”

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Platten, leading the investigation, said: “This incident that has seen a young boy sadly die has understandably rocked the local community in New Moston.

“We have made significant headway in the investigation, which has seen us arrest another suspect on suspicion of murder, taking the total up to five.

“This is a live investigation and we are still looking for information, doorbell or dashcam footage, or eye-witness accounts from anyone who was in the area at the time.”

“He was a beautiful soul”

Ibrahima’s death has sparked an outpouring of grief and a wave of solidarity from local residents, friends, and strangers alike. A fundraiser, set up to support his grieving family, has so far raised over £12,000, with a new target of £20,000.

I Love Manchester spoke to the person who set the fundraiser up, one of Ibrahima’s Primary School teaching assistants.

She said: “Ibrahima Seck was only 14 years old and was brutally stabbed and killed in Moston, Manchester on June the 8th.

“I had the honour of working with this young man in school, where he was very well loved.

“He was a beautiful soul who had the most infectious smile – you couldn’t help but laugh with him. He will be missed by so many.

“Ibrahima was always smiling. He was well loved by staff and students.

“It’s an absolute tragedy. He will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to have met him. Forever 14”

She added that every penny raised will go directly to Ibrahima’s family to ease the financial burden at a time of unimaginable loss.

“We must stand together as communities in times like this and offer support – no matter how big or small.”

In an update on the fundraising page, she wrote: “We are completely overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible outpouring of support for the Seck family. Your donations, messages, and shares have brought comfort and hope. Your generosity has already made a significant impact, and we’re deeply thankful for every contribution.”
